Ragnar Relay - Wasatch Back

What is Ragnar you ask? Ragnar Relay is a running relay race that takes place over 2 days and 1 night. The Utah version is called the Wasatch Back and is 197 miles starting in Logan and ending in Park City. Our team consisted of 12 runners divided into two 6-person "vans". Each runner ran 3 legs (or segments). Each leg varied in difficulty and ranged anywhere from 2 - 10 miles. Keith and I participated on the Datamark Ragnar team. We were runners #8 and #12 so we were in van #2. Van #1 started bright and early at about 6:15 am on Friday morning and I (runner #12) crossed the finish line on Saturday about 5:00 pm. Our team name was, "The Peepshow at the Peepnar." Don't ask, it was a Datamark thing. :)

This was our "Van."

Keith and I also devoted some of our running in memory of his cousin Jakelle.

My daddio in the drivers seat at one point.

My dad was runner #10. Runner #10's 3rd leg was referred to as Ragnar Hill. It was about 4.5 miles with a 1600 ft incline. It was the steepest part of the route. My dad did awesome, it was a brutal incline and he ran it at about 2 in the afternoon so it was super HOT! Keith is in yellow and was offering support throughout Dad's leg. We helped him out with water and ice cold towels for the neck.

Most of the "legs" are supported by the team van. This means your teammates essentially follow you in the vehicle as close as you need to offer support with water or whatever else you may need during your leg. Some of our runners didn't need or want the support so we would just end up meeting them at the next exchange point where one runner would hand off to the next runner.

Unfortunately all of my legs were unsupported so I was all by my little lonesome during my runs and had to carry my own water or rely on the two water stops provided by the Ragnar organization.

Chilling in the park after we registered. We were waiting for Van #1 and runner #6 to come to the exchange point to hand off to our first runner, runner #7.

This is Jeff, he was in our van. He is sporting a peep on his head. He thoroughly enjoyed "peep"ing other vehicles. Anytime we passed another van with a window down he would attempt to throw a peep into the open window while we all yelled, "PEEP"!

A nice action shot of me starting out my first leg.

Keith was able to get this action shot of Dad while he was conquering Ragnar Hill.
